The Department of Literature in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for term faculty positions for Academic Year 2019-2020.  Rank will be dependent on experience and degree. 

Two appointments are 9-month term positions starting in fall semester (August 26, 2019).  The positions will require the faculty members to teach three 15-work undergraduate writing courses in each of the fall and spring semesters.

One appointment is a 12-month term position starting May 20, 2019.  This position will require the faculty member to teach two 12-week undergraduate courses in the summer and three 15-week undergraduate writing courses in each of the fall and spring semesters.

 Most of these courses will be restricted to international second-language writers.  These classes are capped at 15 students.  All faculty are expected to hold office hours and participate in department and university activities and service.

Applicants should hold a graduate degree in English or Rhetoric and Composition, TESOL, linguistics, or related field, with degrees and coursework in second-language writing preferred. Additionally, applicants should have experience teaching academic writing to international students at the university level.
